Vineyard Vistas

Peret, Languedoc South of France
Sleeps 4

France's best kept secret, the Languedoc, is where you'll find the rural France you've always dreamed of. Sleepy villages of sun-warmed stones and red tiled roofs unspoilt by mass tourism, magnificent scenery ideal for rambles on foot or horseback amongst herb scented hills, with deep gorges tumbling into cool, inviting rivers. This is where PÉRET is situated - a picturesque little village of 550 inhabitants, climbing typically higgledy piggledy up a hill crowned by a 14th century church and 12th century chapel. Local shops include a grocer, bread shop, Tabac/Bazaar and an internet and fax service. Restaurants, supermarkets, street markets, shops, banks etc can be found in the lively market towns of Clermont l’Herault (10 minutes) or Pezenas (15 minutes). Swimming at Mediterranean beaches, 30 minutes, Lake Salagou (also fishing and watersports), 10 minutes, River Hérault (canoe hire) 15 minutes.

If you can tear yourself away from such over-abundance of nature's generosity, there are many local places of interest nearby. Or an hour's drive takes you to splendid Roman towns such as Avignon, Nîmes, Arles. For a touch of true French sophistication, Montpellier (40 mins) offers the arts, theatre, shopping and an international airport.

Traditional tiled floors, whitewashed walls, exposed beams and traditional fabrics create a real French country feel for your holiday at 'Vineyard Vistas'. A charming, beamed house on three levels, it has been restored to a high standard, retaining the character whilst carefully incorporating all modern day comforts.

On the top floor there's a large, bright sitting room with exposed beams and a magnificent view. French doors lead from the sitting room to an enormous, south-east facing sunny terrace, with stunning 300 degree views of mountains and vineyards. Equipped with sun lounges and dining setting, it's perfect for meals and sunbathing. (NB: some of the stairs up to the sitting room from the kitchen are irregular in size).

On the next floor are two bedrooms. The spacious double bedded room (photo left) is decorated in Provencal fabric of blue and yellow, the twin bedded room in burgundy Toile de Jouy traditional print. There is a second WC also on this level. The delightful kitchen/ dining room has lots of charm with exposed beams, blue and white tiles and enormous old fireplace. An efficient wood burning stove provides warmth and ambience for cold weather.

The spacious bathroom, with separate shower and bath, two washbasins and WC, is on the ground floor.

From the utilities area, doors lead to the pretty garden protected by an ancient stone wall.  Quality equipment includes a washing machine, Satellite TV with UK and European channels, 2 bikes for adults, Gas BBQ, Radio/CD/Cassette player (some CDs & Cassettes provided).

Parking is available in a small square approximately 300 ft (1 minute) from the house and you can stop outside the house to load/unload your car.
