Le Barry, Montpeyroux
(Sleeps 6) - queen size bed

Le Chai (The Old Winery) is a lovingly restored former winery, built in 1631, in the medieval hamlet of le Barry, part of the lively village of Montpeyroux with its romantic, ruined 10th Century chateau, weekly Thursday morning market and highly regarded wine, one of the Grand Crus of the Languedoc.  In Montpeyroux, a 10 minute walk/a couple of minutes’ drive away, are an excellent boulangerie, grocer and butcher, a wine bar/restaurant and bar/cafe which both provide meals at lunchtime and in the evening.

All services, shops, restaurants and a Saturday morning market which is one of the best in the area, can be found in the town of Gignac, 7 kms. The cool, inviting river Hérault provides an excellent swimming spot 5 kms away, with a natural, pebbly beach and canoe hire. Lake Salagou for swimming, fishing and non-motorised water sports, is a 20 minute drive, Mediterranean beaches 35 minutes. The surrounding countryside is ideal for walking.

To the north the mountains and to the south the coastal plane have made Montpeyroux an ancient crossroads. As well as many local places of interest to visit, sophisticated Montpellier with its International Airport and train station, is a 35 minute drive away and splendid Roman towns such as Avignon, Nîmes and Arles can be reached in an hour and a half. The property has been well restored recently to an exceptionally high standard and is very well equipped with all modern comforts, whilst keeping much of its original character

All accommodation is on the ground floor, with a superb vaulted ceiling and terracotta tiled floors.  Features include some exposed stones and the original ancient stone sink.  Entry is through French doors to the spacious kitchen/dining and living area of 40 sq m.   Comfortable seating, mood lighting and careful choice of furniture and decoration combine for a chic yet relaxing ambience.

The vaulted ceiling with feature exposed stones extends into the terracotta toned, fully tiled shower room with WC and hand washbasin.  This opens through to the bedroom with queen size bed and French doors out to the laundry, covered terrace and the garden.

The 60 sq m garden, with a good view and open outlook, is surrounded by an old stone wall and has the original old well.  Steps lead up to the 25 sq m terrace, with a super view, Gas BBQ, outdoor dining furniture and sun lounges.

Equipment includes: Dishwasher.  Washing machine.  Clothes dryer. Cooker with oven and 4 hotplates.  Microwave.  Satellite TV.  DVD/CD player.  Short wave radio/cassette player.  Telephone for incoming calls. Hairdryer.
NB: Whilst the owners live in the top part of the property, they will not be in residence when the apartment is let.
